About Vermund Larsen
VERMUND is part of VERMUND LARSEN A/S – a Danish, family-owned company founded in 1935 by Vermund Larsen, a visionary furniture designer and pioneer in ergonomically designed seating.
A legacy of Danish design and innovation
Vermund Larsen was a trained interior architect and a visionary entrepreneur. As a pioneer in ergonomic office chairs, he worked in a field few other designers explored – the intersection between aesthetics and sound ergonomics. His unique approach led to furniture that was both visually striking and exceptionally comfortable to sit in.
Although he passed away in 1970, his vision lives on through three brands: VELA (assistive chairs), VELA Medical (clinical chairs), and VERMUND (design furniture).
A pioneer in ergonomics and design
Vermund Larsen set new standards in furniture design. He was the first in the world to use a gas lift for chair height adjustment – a groundbreaking invention that has since become a standard in modern office chairs.
He was also the first European manufacturer of fully moulded fibreglass chairs, in collaboration with Ib Kofod Larsen, another example of his innovative approach and sharp eye for function and form.
A legacy of uncompromising quality
Today, Vermund Larsen’s legacy lives on through VERMUND’s design furniture – still crafted with a focus on quality and comfort. Each piece is hand-assembled at our production facilities in Aalborg, using carefully selected materials such as wood, steel and natural leather. By balancing aesthetics and ergonomics, we continue Vermund’s vision of creating furniture that is both beautiful and comfortable.
Crafted in-house with precision and care
At VERMUND, all upholstery production takes place in our own factory in Aalborg. Here, our skilled team creates the backrest and seat for every chair, from the first cut of fabric and the application of foam to the careful stitching and final finish.
We combine classic furniture craftsmanship with modern technology to improve precision, reduce waste and ease the most physically demanding tasks. Intelligent machines handle the heavy lifting and precise cutting, allowing our upholsterers to work safely and focus on what truly requires experience, craftsmanship, and an eye for detail.
Quality built on respect for people and materials
Our upholstery production is designed with the same care and attention that we put into our furniture. An advanced system calculates how each fabric can be used most efficiently, minimising waste without compromising on quality.
Everything is done under our own roof, and every process is carefully monitored and quality-assured, from the first measurements to the final hand-finished detail.
